'Troilus and Criseyde' Summary
Troilus and Criseyde is a tragic love story set against the backdrop of the Trojan War. Troilus, a Trojan prince, falls deeply in love with Criseyde, the daughter of a Trojan priest. However, their love is doomed from the start, as Criseyde's father betrays the Trojans and joins the Greeks. Criseyde is forced to leave Troy and return to her father, and Troilus is left heartbroken. He eventually dies in battle, and Criseyde dies of grief. The poem explores the themes of love, loss, and betrayal, and is considered one of Chaucer's greatest works.Book Details
