by Takeo Arishima

This novel, set in the harsh and unforgiving landscape of Hokkaido, tells the story of a fisherman named Kimoto who yearns to become a painter. Driven by his artistic passion, he seeks out a writer in Sapporo, hoping to gain recognition for his talent. Years later, amidst a raging snowstorm, Kimoto returns to the city, his life and dreams irrevocably altered by the challenges he has faced. Based on the life of the real-life painter Kida Kinjiro, the story explores themes of ambition, perseverance, and the sacrifices we make for our dreams.
