'Unterm Birnbaum' Summary
Abel Hradscheck, ein verschuldeter Dorfknecht und Wirt, findet die Leiche eines französischen Soldaten unter seinem Birnbaum. In einem verzweifelten Versuch, seine finanziellen Schwierigkeiten zu lösen, inszeniert er den Tod eines polnischen Handlungsreisenden, Szulski, der seine Schulden eintreiben sollte.
