Achilleid
'Achilleid' Summary
**Summary** The Achilleid opens with the prophecy of Thetis, Achilles' mother, who foresees her son's glorious but short-lived destiny. Determined to protect him from the perils of the Trojan War, she disguises him as a girl and sends him to the court of King Lycomedes on the island of Scyros. However, Achilles' true nature is soon revealed when the Greek emissaries, Odysseus and Diomedes, arrive seeking his aid in the war against Troy.
