'Adelgitha; or, The Fruits of a Single Error' Summary
Adelgitha, a young princess of Apulia, finds herself caught in a web of deceit and treachery when she spurns the advances of Robert Guiscard, the ambitious Prince of Apulia. Guiscard, fueled by a burning desire for revenge, vows to expose her past and ruin her reputation. He uses his influence and power to manipulate and blackmail Adelgitha, threatening to reveal a past indiscretion that she desperately seeks to conceal. The story unfolds amidst the backdrop of a volatile political landscape, as the Norman Guiscard seeks to assert his power over the Byzantine Empire, ruled by Michael Ducas. Love, betrayal, and a clash of ideologies collide as Adelgitha struggles to find her place in a world where power and ambition often trump morality. As the play unfolds, the consequences of Adelgitha's 'single error' unravel with tragic consequences, leaving her and those around her entangled in a spiral of despair and destruction.Book Details
