Vegetable; or, From President to Postman
'Vegetable; or, From President to Postman' Summary
Jerry Frost, a middle-aged railway clerk, feels trapped by his ordinary life. He dreams of achieving the American Dream, of wealth, power, and a place in the White House. After a night of heavy drinking, Jerry falls into a drunken fantasy, imagining himself as the President of the United States. In this fantastical realm, Jerry faces a series of absurd situations and characters, all satirical reflections of the political climate of the 1920s. He encounters corrupt politicians, ambitious advisors, and a public obsessed with celebrity and scandal. However, Jerry's dream presidency crumbles under the weight of its own absurdity, leaving him to face the harsh realities of his ordinary life. As Jerry awakens from his intoxication, he realizes the folly of his aspirations and accepts his place in the world as a seemingly ordinary individual, a far cry from the ambitious leader he dreamed of becoming. ‘The Vegetable’ is a satirical play that critiques the pursuit of the American Dream and exposes the hypocrisy and absurdity of the political system, all while exploring the themes of disillusionment, ambition, and the power of fantasy.Book Details
