Regenta (Tomo I)

Regenta (Tomo I)

by Leopoldo Garcia Alas

La Regenta is widely regarded as one of the greatest Spanish novels of the 19th century. It tells the story of Ana Ozores, a beautiful and virtuous young woman who is trapped in a loveless marriage to a much older man. When she meets the charming and charismatic Don Álvaro Mesía, she finds herself torn between her duty to her husband and her desire for true love. Meanwhile, the powerful and manipulative priest Don Fermín de Pas is determined to win Ana's affections for himself, and he will stop at nothing to get what he wants. La Regenta is a complex and richly textured novel that explores the themes of love, marriage, religion, and morality.
