'After the Divorce' Summary
Giovanna and Costantino's happy marriage is shattered when Costantino is falsely imprisoned for murder. With no means to support herself, Giovanna reluctantly divorces him and marries the wealthy but cruel Brontu. Enduring an oppressive marriage, she faces scorn from the villagers for her dual marital status. Upon Costantino's release, they reunite, but their relationship now exists outside the law.
