Book 8 of Anna Karenina continues the story of the titular character and her lover, Count Vronsky. Vronsky, unable to bear the thought of living without Anna, leaves for the Servian war, hoping to find death in battle. Meanwhile, Anna remains in Moscow, torn between her desire for Vronsky and her obligations to her husband and son. Back at his farm in the countryside, Levin grapples with his own existential doubts and struggles to find meaning in life.
