Au cœur du XVIIIe siècle, la région française du Gévaudan est plongée dans la terreur. Une bête sauvage, décrite comme un loup immense et féroce, sème la panique et la mort. Des habitants sont attaqués et tués, le mystère entourant l'identité de la bête ne cesse de grandir. Les autorités, impuissantes face à la menace, déclenchent une chasse implacable pour traquer la créature.
