Die Büchse der Pandora erzählt die Geschichte von Lulu, einer jungen Frau, die mit ihrer Schönheit und ihrer verführerischen Ausstrahlung Männer in ihren Bann zieht und deren Leben für immer verändert. Von einem lustvollen und extravaganten Lebensstil angezogen, findet Lulu sich immer wieder in gefährlichen und zerstörerischen Beziehungen wieder. Ihr Weg ist geprägt von einer unaufhaltsamen Suche nach Freiheit und Selbstbestimmung, die sie letztlich in den Abgrund treibt. Wedekinds Stück hinterfragt die gesellschaftlichen Normen und die Machtverhältnisse zwischen den Geschlechtern, wobei es insbesondere die verführerische Natur der Frau und die dunkle Seite des menschlichen Daseins beleuchtet.
