Sea Lady

Sea Lady

by H. G. Wells

The Sea Lady tells the story of a mermaid who washes ashore in Edwardian England, a world vastly different from her watery home. Driven by an innate yearning for connection and a desire to understand the world above the waves, she strives to adapt to the complexities of human society. With the aid of her newly made human friends, she attempts to navigate the intricacies of etiquette, fashion, and social conventions, all while grappling with the challenges of her own unique nature. However, her efforts are met with both fascination and fear, as she encounters prejudice and misunderstanding from those who see her as an anomaly. The novel explores themes of identity, adaptation, the beauty and cruelty of nature, and the power of love in overcoming prejudice.
