Mientras Don Beltrán intenta recuperar su dinero, se encuentra con la monja Marcela, quien busca el lugar donde su difunto padre escondió sus riquezas para donarlas a un monasterio. El amor del joven militar Nelet por Marcela añade otra capa de complejidad a la trama, mientras que las diferentes perspectivas sobre la guerra y la religión se exploran a través de los personajes.
