by Henry James
'Daisy Miller: A Study in Two Parts' Summary
Daisy Miller, a young American girl traveling through Europe with her mother and younger brother, encounters Frederick Winterbourne, an American expatriate. Winterbourne, a man of refined social sensibilities, is initially charmed by Daisy's innocence and vivaciousness. However, Daisy's carefree and seemingly inappropriate behavior, particularly her flirtations with a charming Italian gentleman, causes a scandal amongst the expatriate community in Geneva and later Rome. As Winterbourne attempts to guide Daisy towards a more socially acceptable path, their differences in cultural understanding and expectations create a growing tension, ultimately leading to a tragic outcome.Book Details
