Don Juan
'Don Juan' Summary
Don Giovanni, a notorious libertine, is known for his relentless pursuit of women. After seducing Donna Anna, he murders her father, Don Pedro, sparking a cycle of revenge. Donna Anna, along with her fiancé, Don Ottavio, seeks justice, while Donna Elvira, one of Giovanni's former conquests, desperately tries to reclaim his affections. Giovanni's servant, Leporello, narrates his master's exploits, revealing a trail of broken hearts and shattered lives. Amidst the chaos, Giovanni encounters Zerlina, a peasant girl, and attempts to seduce her, but his plans are thwarted by Masetto, Zerlina's fiancé. As Giovanni's pursuit of pleasure leads him to face the consequences of his actions, the opera culminates in a chilling encounter with the statue of Don Pedro, who drags Giovanni to his fiery fate. Through a series of dramatic confrontations, romantic entanglements, and philosophical musings, the libretto explores themes of morality, societal expectations, and the power of love and vengeance.Book Details
