'Doppelgänger' Summary
Goljadkin, ein Titularrat in St. Petersburg, wird von seinem Arzt Dr. Rutenspitz als verrückt erklärt und zu einem gesellschaftlichen Leben ermutigt. Er besucht unerlaubt eine Geburtstagsfeier, begeht jedoch eine Reihe von Fauxpas, die zu seinem Ausschluss führen. Auf dem Heimweg durch einen Schneesturm begegnet er einem Mann, der ihm unheimlich ähnlich sieht, seinem Doppelgänger. Dieser Doppelgänger beginnt, Goljadkins Leben zu stören, indem er seine Position im Amt und seine sozialen Beziehungen untergräbt. Goljadkin kämpft mit der Unterscheidung zwischen Realität und Halluzination und wird von Selbstzweifeln und Paranoia gequält. Seine Beziehung zu seinem Doppelgänger wird zunehmend angespannt und er gerät in einen Strudel aus Verzweiflung und Wahnsinn. Der Roman endet mit Goljadkins vollständiger Auflösung in den Wahnsinn, der die Grenzen zwischen Realität und Illusion endgültig verwischt.Book Details
