Double Falsehood; Or, The Distrest Lovers

Double Falsehood; or, The Distrest Lovers

by Lewis Theobald

Double Falsehood is a play by Lewis Theobald, believed to be a reconstruction of a lost play by Shakespeare and Fletcher, drawing inspiration from Cervantes' Don Quixote. The play revolves around the Duke Angelo, who fears his son Henriquez's behavior. The Duke seeks to control his son through a scheme involving Julio, Henriquez's friend, who is tasked with spying on him. However, Julio's efforts to secure his own marriage to Leonora while acting as a spy add to the layers of deceit and mistaken identities, leading to complications and amusing situations.
