'Fuente Ovejuna' Summary
The play is set in the town of Fuente Ovejuna, which is under the tyrannical rule of the governor, Fernán Gómez. The governor abuses his power and oppresses the townspeople, who are desperate for justice. One day, the governor attempts to rape a young woman named Laurencia, who is engaged to Frondoso. The townspeople are outraged and decide to take matters into their own hands. They rise up in revolt and kill the governor. When the king's forces arrive to investigate the murder, the townspeople refuse to reveal the identity of the killer, saying that they all acted as one.
