Dantes *Inferno* ist der erste Teil der *Göttliche Komödie*. In diesem Teil führt Vergil Dante durch die neun Kreise der Hölle, die jeweils für verschiedene Sünden stehen. Sie begegnen bekannten Persönlichkeiten aus der Geschichte und der Mythologie, die Dante mit ihren Geschichten und ihrem Schicksal konfrontiert. Dante erfährt dabei nicht nur über die Qualen der Hölle, sondern auch über die verlockenden Schleier der Sünde und die tragischen Folgen von Fehlentscheidungen.
