How A British Subject Became President Of The United States

How a British Subject Became President of the United States

by Arthur P. Hinman

This book presents a conspiracy theory about the eligibility of Chester A. Arthur to hold the office of Vice President and later President of the United States. It alleges that Arthur was born in Canada, making him ineligible for the presidency. The book was published in 1884 by A. P. Hinman, an attorney and Democratic operative who claimed to have been hired by the Democratic National Committee to investigate Arthur's background. The theory was never proven, and Arthur served as President from 1881 to 1885.
