Ivanhoe is a historical novel by Sir Walter Scott, first published in 1820. The story is set in England in the 12th century, during the reign of Richard I (the Lionheart). The novel follows the adventures of Sir Wilfred of Ivanhoe, a Saxon knight who has returned from the Crusades to find his homeland in turmoil.
