Monarchia

Monarchia

by Dante Alighieri

The De Monarchia is a political treatise by Dante Alighieri, written in Latin in the early 14th century. It is one of the most important works of political philosophy from the Middle Ages and has been influential in the development of Western political thought. In the De Monarchia, Dante argues that the Holy Roman Emperor is the rightful ruler of the world and that his authority is derived from God. He also argues that the Pope's authority is limited to spiritual matters and that he should not interfere in temporal affairs. Dante's ideas were controversial in his own time and they remain controversial today. However, the De Monarchia is a valuable work of political philosophy that provides important insights into the political thought of the Middle Ages.
