My Lady's Money
'My Lady's Money' Summary
Lady Lydiard is a wealthy widow who lives in a large house with her staff. She has a large sum of money that she intends to give to someone, but before she can do so, the money is stolen. Lady Lydiard is devastated by the theft, and she suspects that one of her servants is responsible. She calls in Inspector Colquhoun to investigate the crime. As Colquhoun investigates, he uncovers a web of secrets and lies. Each of the servants has something to hide, and they all have a motive for stealing the money. Colquhoun must carefully examine the evidence and interview the suspects in order to determine who is guilty. As the investigation progresses, Colquhoun begins to suspect that Lady Lydiard herself may be involved in the crime. He discovers that she has a secret lover, and that she may have stolen the money to give to him. Colquhoun confronts Lady Lydiard with his suspicions, and she confesses to the crime. She explains that she stole the money because she was in love with a man who needed the money to pay off his debts. She says that she intended to repay the money, but she was caught before she could do so. Colquhoun arrests Lady Lydiard and charges her with theft. She is convicted and sentenced to prison.Book Details
