Mystery at Geneva: An Improbable Tale of Singular Happenings
'Mystery at Geneva: An Improbable Tale of Singular Happenings' Summary
Henry Beechtree, a correspondent for the British Bolshevist newspaper, is covering the latest otherwise sleepy session of the League of Nations in Geneva, when the newly elected President – a member of the Norwegian delegation – disappears mysteriously, adding some badly needed ‘spice’ to Henry's assignment. As Henry investigates the President's disappearance, he finds himself drawn into a world of international intrigue and political maneuvering. He meets a cast of eccentric characters, including a beautiful Russian spy, a bumbling British diplomat, and a mysterious Swiss doctor. Along the way, Henry learns about the inner workings of the League of Nations and the complex political forces at play in Europe in the aftermath of World War I. With his trademark wit and satire, Rose Macaulay skewers the pretensions of international diplomacy and the follies of human nature.Book Details
