Das Nibelungenlied, oft als das nationale Epos Deutschlands bezeichnet, ist ein mittelalterliches Heldengedicht, das im frühen 13. Jahrhundert in Mittelhochdeutsch verfasst wurde. Es erzählt die tragische Geschichte von Siegfried, einem tapferen Drachentöter, und seiner Liebe zu Kriemhild, einer burgundischen Prinzessin. Die Handlung beinhaltet auch Gunther, den König von Burgund, seine Brautwerbung um Brunhild, die isländische Königin, und den Verrat von Siegfried durch die Burgunder, der zu seinem Mord führt. Die Geschichte nimmt eine düstere Wendung, als Kriemhild, getrieben von Rache, ihren neuen Ehemann, den hunnischen König Etzel, benutzt, um den Mord an Siegfried an Hagen und den anderen Burgundern zu rächen. Das Nibelungenlied ist ein Werk voller Leidenschaft, Verrat, Gewalt und tragischer Liebe.
