Noite Na Taverna: Contos Phantásticos

Noite na Taverna: contos phantásticos

by Alvares de Azevedo

A Noite na Taverna is an anthology of five tales by the Brazilian author Álvares de Azevedo. It was published posthumously under the pseudonym Job Stern. The book is structured as a frame story containing the narratives of a group of five young men sheltering in a tavern. It is considered one of the few examples of Gothic fiction in Brazilian literature, as the narratives are full of morbidity and lasciviousness, figured in unrequited love, cannibalism, murder, sexual violence, and alcoholism.
