Outcast
'Outcast' Summary
The Outcast centers around a young man deeply embedded in his religious faith. As he delves into the emerging scientific discoveries of his time, particularly the theory of evolution, his convictions crumble. He struggles to reconcile the notion of a benevolent God with the cold realities of a universe governed by natural selection, a world where death and struggle are inherent to the very fabric of existence. This realization throws him into a maelstrom of doubt, forcing him to confront the implications of his changing beliefs on his relationships and the life he has built. He is left with a wrenching decision: embrace his newfound understanding of the world, knowing it will fracture his familial connections and the life he knows, or suppress his doubts to maintain the familiar comfort of his former beliefs. The novel explores the personal cost of embracing truth, the struggle to reconcile faith and reason, and the profound human desire to reconcile conflicting worldviews in the face of life-altering discoveries.Book Details
