Princess Zoubaroff
'Princess Zoubaroff' Summary
Enid and Eric, a newly married couple, are on their honeymoon in Florence when they encounter Princess Zena Zoubaroff, a captivating and eccentric woman who arrives with plans to establish a convent in the city. As Enid grows increasingly fascinated by the Princess, Eric becomes increasingly disillusioned with his wife and the seemingly frivolous lifestyle they lead. Meanwhile, their friend Adrian embarks on a journey to the mountains with Eric, leaving Enid in the company of Lord Orkish and his young companion Reggie, who bear striking resemblance to Oscar Wilde and his lover Lord Alfred Douglas. Blanche Negress, a writer whose work explores lesbian themes, further adds to the complexity of the relationships and the blurring of traditional societal boundaries. The play unfolds through witty dialogue and outrageous scenarios, revealing the hypocrisy and hidden desires of the characters. The dynamics of love, friendship, and social expectations are challenged, while the characters grapple with their own identities and desires in a world where appearances and conformity hold immense power. The arrival of the Princess becomes a catalyst for upheaval, leading to a collision of personalities and a questioning of conventional norms.Book Details
