Charles K Spencer is a wealthy young American mining engineer traveling in London when he overhears a conversation that leads him to play 'fairy godfather' to a young woman with aspirations of becoming a writer for a scientific journal. He arranges for her to travel to Switzerland, but she's unknowingly shadowed by a mysterious and potentially dangerous man named Mr. Bower. Spencer follows close behind, determined to protect the woman he's come to admire.
