Song Of A Young Lady To Her Ancient Lover

Song of a Young Lady to Her Ancient Lover

by John Wilmot

Song of a Young Lady to Her Ancient Lover is a satirical poem by John Wilmot. It was written in the 17th century and is considered one of the best examples of Restoration satire. The poem is written in the voice of a young woman who is propositioned by an old man. She uses wit and humor to reject his advances, and in doing so, she exposes the folly of his vanity. It has been praised for its wit and humor and its sharp social commentary. However, it was also controversial due to its racy and suggestive language.
