'Stranger' Summary
The Stranger, a mysterious and brooding individual, arrives in the town where the Haller family resides. The family is facing hardships, including a troubled marriage between Mrs. Haller and her husband, and a love triangle involving their daughter, Charlotte, and her fiancé. The Stranger's presence throws the family into disarray as he reveals his connection to their past, particularly to Mrs. Haller's youthful indiscretions. He reveals a shocking secret, a past betrayal that haunts Mrs. Haller with guilt and leads to her estrangement from her husband.
