Twice Bought
'Twice Bought' Summary
Tom Brixton, a young man from England, travels to the gold fields of Oregon with his best friend, Fred Westly. Driven by the allure of quick riches, Tom falls into the trap of gambling, losing all his money and resorting to theft. Fleeing from the angry miners who seek to punish him, he stumbles upon the cabin of an elderly prospector and his daughter, Betty, known as the "Rose of Oregon." Despite his love for Betty, his past deeds and reckless lifestyle stand as barriers to her affection. He's captured, then released, only to be captured again. As Tom navigates dangerous escapes and encounters, his character begins to change. His friend Fred, true to his promise to Tom's mother, remains steadfast in his support. Their adventures lead them through perilous situations, from harrowing chases to encounters with colorful characters like the hilarious Irishman Paddy Flinders. Through trials and tribulations, Tom confronts his past, learns from his mistakes, and finds redemption. Ultimately, Tom's journey reflects the struggle for self-improvement, the power of forgiveness, and the enduring bonds of friendship and faith. "Twice Bought" weaves together themes of adventure, romance, and moral transformation, set against the backdrop of the rugged Oregon goldfields.Book Details
