Vera
'Vera' Summary
Lucy Entwhistle, a naive young woman, marries Everard Wemyss, a widower who lives in a grand mansion called "The Willows." Everard's deceased wife, Vera, casts a long shadow over the household, and Lucy becomes increasingly obsessed with her. The servants, deeply loyal to both wives, subtly undermine Everard's attempts to maintain order and control. As Lucy unravels the secrets of the past and witnesses the oppressive nature of Everard's personality, she begins to question her own role in the marriage. With a blend of humor and social commentary, the novel satirizes the expectations and realities of marriage, highlighting the power imbalances that can exist within a relationship.Book Details
