« Vingtième Siècle » d'Albert Robida est un roman d'anticipation sociale qui imagine un monde futur où les femmes ont un rôle prédominant dans le monde juridique, défendant même les criminels les plus notoires en utilisant leurs larmes pour émouvoir les jurés. La technologie a également connu un essor considérable, avec l'apparition du téléphone, de la télévision et d'autres inventions. L'histoire suit Hélène Colobry, une jeune femme qui sort du lycée et cherche sa voie dans ce monde futuriste. Guidée par son tuteur, le riche banquier Raphaël Ponto, elle explore différentes carrières, de la loi à la politique, avant de se tourner vers la littérature et le journalisme. Le roman se déroule sur fond de critiques satiriques et d'observations perspicaces sur le système politique, les droits des femmes, le capitalisme et l'impact de la technologie sur la société.
