'Waverley, Volume 1' Summary
Edward Waverley, a young English soldier, is sent to Scotland in 1745 to help quell the Jacobite Rebellion. However, he soon finds himself torn between his loyalty to the British crown and his sympathy for the Jacobite cause. As he journeys through the Scottish Highlands, he encounters a colorful cast of characters, including the beautiful Flora MacIvor and the eccentric Baron Bradwardine. Waverley's experiences in Scotland challenge his preconceptions and force him to confront his own identity and beliefs.
