Edward Waverley, a young English soldier, is sent to Scotland in 1745 to quell the Jacobite Rebellion. As he travels through the Scottish Highlands, Waverley encounters a cast of colorful characters, including the eccentric Baron Bradwardine and the enigmatic Flora Mac-Ivor.
