Centuries Apart begins with a group of Union soldiers being dispatched by President Lincoln on a secret mission. They are transported to a medieval England in the heart of Antarctica, a land that has been cut off from regular England since the 1500s. The soldiers are led by Captain John Evans, who keeps a journal of their experiences.The soldiers quickly discover that this alternate world is very different from their own. The people of South England are still living in a feudal society, and they are ruled by a dysfunctional monarchy. The soldiers also encounter a group of French colonists who have established a settlement in the south of the island.As the soldiers explore South England, they become embroiled in the local politics and conflicts. They also begin to fall in love with the people and the land. However, their presence in South England is also having a negative impact on the world. The introduction of modern technology and ideas is causing social and political upheaval.The soldiers eventually decide that they must return home. However, they know that their departure will have a lasting impact on South England.
