'Corte de Carlos IV' Summary
La novela comienza poco después de la Batalla de Trafalgar, con Gabriel Araceli, el protagonista de la anterior novela, "Trafalgar", ahora al servicio de la condesa de Casa-Pardo. La condesa, una mujer astuta y ambiciosa, lo utiliza como un peón en sus juegos de poder dentro de la corte de Carlos IV. Gabriel se ve envuelto en una serie de intrigas políticas y amorosas, mientras observa cómo el rey, débil e influenciado por el valido Godoy, es manipulado por los intereses de la nobleza. A través de Gabriel, Galdós retrata la decadencia moral de la corte, la corrupción que se extiende por todos los niveles del poder, la hipocresía y el vacío de valores que caracterizan la sociedad de la época. La novela culmina con la caída del favorito del rey, Godoy, y la entrada de España en una nueva era marcada por la inestabilidad política y la guerra contra Napoleón.Book Details
