'Egoist' Summary
The Egoist is a tragi-comic novel by George Meredith that tells the story of Sir Willoughby Patterne, a wealthy and self-absorbed baronet who believes himself to be the center of the universe. When his first attempt at marriage is thwarted, he becomes obsessed with winning the hand of Clara Middleton, a strong-willed and independent woman who sees through his vanity.
