Nel dramma teatrale "Enrico IV" di Luigi Pirandello, ci immergiamo in un mondo di inganni e identità frantumate. Il protagonista, Enrico IV, è un aristocratico che, dopo una caduta da un cavallo durante una recita in costume, crede di essere l'Imperatore Enrico IV del Sacro Romano Impero. Questa convinzione lo costringe a vivere come il sovrano del XI secolo.
La trama ruota attorno alle conseguenze di questa pazzia. Enrico IV, o meglio il suo alter ego, vive nella sua villa con un gruppo di amici che si fingono membri della sua corte medievale. Questa commedia umana e straziante affronta temi profondi come la follia, l'identità, la maschera sociale e la realtà distorta.
L'autore, Luigi Pirandello, noto per la sua esplorazione della natura umana e della relatività della verità, mette in scena un gioco di specchi psicologico. Gli amici di Enrico IV, così come il suo psichiatra e la donna che ama, finiscono per essere coinvolti in una tragedia di errori e inganni. La domanda centrale diventa se Enrico sia veramente pazzo o se indossi solo la maschera di un folle per sfuggire alla realtà.
La pièce di Pirandello si svolge tra il dramma e la commedia, scavando profondamente nell'abisso della mente umana e dell'identità.
