春の潮 (Haru no Ushio)

This is a sequel to 'Tonari no Yome' (The Neighbor's Wife) by Sachio Itō. The story takes place in a rural village in northern Chiba Prefecture, near the Kuujyukuri coast. Otoyo, the protagonist, returns to her parents' home after her husband's death. She is still in love with Syosaku, who has also returned to his parents' home. However, their love is forbidden, as they are both expected to marry other people. Otoyo is pressured to marry a wealthy man, but she refuses. Syosaku goes to Tokyo to find work, and Otoyo promises to wait for him for two years.
