Libro VI de la Historia de Heródoto, también conocido como 'Las Guerras Médicas', narra la historia de la rebelión jonia contra el Imperio Persa y su brutal represión. El libro sigue las intrigas del tirano de Mileto, Histieo, quien intenta incitar a los jonios a la rebelión. Se describe la derrota de la armada jonia en la batalla de Mileto y la posterior invasión persa a Atenas. La historia culmina con la épica victoria griega en la batalla de Maratón, que marca un punto de inflexión en la lucha contra la expansión persa. También se narra la controversia que enfrenta Milcíades, héroe de Maratón, por su fracaso en la conquista de Paros, y su posterior absolución tras la conquista de Lemnos.
