Michael Kohlhaas (English Translation)
'Michael Kohlhaas (English Translation)' Summary
The story begins when Kohlhaas, a well-to-do horse trader, has two of his horses seized by a corrupt nobleman. Kohlhaas seeks legal recourse, but the nobleman's influence and the inherent corruption of the legal system prevent him from obtaining justice. Driven by a thirst for revenge, Kohlhaas takes up arms and begins a campaign of violence against the nobleman and his allies. As the conflict escalates, Kohlhaas's actions become increasingly ruthless and indiscriminate, and he finds himself caught in a downward spiral of violence and despair. The novella explores the themes of justice, revenge, and the corrupting influence of power, and offers a powerful critique of the legal system and the limits of human morality.Book Details
