People Of The Mist

People of the Mist

by H. Rider Haggard

In the heart of Africa, penniless Leonard Outram embarks on a perilous quest to reclaim his lost fortune and honor. Accompanied by his loyal Zulu companion, Otter, he rescues a young Portuguese woman, Juanna Rodd, from slavery. As they journey together, Leonard and Juanna find themselves drawn to each other, but their romance is hindered by the watchful and jealous Soa, Juanna's nursemaid. The trio's search for the legendary People of the Mist, rumored to possess a vast treasure, leads them into a turbulent political struggle within the lost race. Amidst giant crocodile gods and power-hungry rulers, Leonard must navigate the treacherous path between heroism and survival. Their daring escape on a stone toboggan down a sheer glacier becomes the ultimate test of their courage and resilience.
