Das Buch 'Tagebuch eines halbwüchsigen Mädchens' erzählt die Geschichte von Grete Lainer, einem jungen Mädchen aus gutem Hause in Wien, das zwischen dem elften und vierzehnten Lebensjahr aufwächst. Die Autorin, Hermine Hug-Hellmuth, beleuchtet die Herausforderungen und Unsicherheiten, mit denen Grete konfrontiert ist, während sie in eine neue Phase ihres Lebens tritt. Der Text vermittelt Einblicke in die gesellschaftlichen Normen und Erwartungen der damaligen Zeit, aber auch in die persönlichen Gedanken und Gefühle eines aufwachsenden Mädchens. Aufgrund von Kontroversen um die Echtheit des Tagebuchs wird es im Zweifel als fiktionales Werk betrachtet. Es ist jedoch wichtig anzumerken, dass der Text auch antisemitische und rassistische Aussagen enthält, die als beleidigend empfunden werden können.
