'Boule de suif' Summary
Boule de Suif is a novella by Guy de Maupassant, first published in 1880. It is set during the Franco-Prussian War and follows a group of travelers who are forced to travel by stagecoach together after the Prussian army captures their town. Among the travelers is Boule de Suif, a prostitute who is ostracized by the other passengers. However, when the stagecoach is stopped by Prussian soldiers, Boule de Suif sacrifices her honor to save the group from being robbed and raped.
