'Estafeta Romántica' Summary
The novel begins with the arrival of a mysterious letter in the town of Veruela. The letter is addressed to Doña María Tirgo, the Marquesa de Sariñán, and it contains a passionate love letter. The Marquesa is immediately intrigued by the letter, and she begins to investigate its author. Her investigation leads her to a group of young men who are involved in a secret society. The men are all members of the Romantic movement, and they are disillusioned with the state of Spanish society. They believe that the only way to change society is through revolution, and they are planning to overthrow the government. The Marquesa is drawn to the men's idealism, and she becomes involved in their plans. However, she soon realizes that the men are not as noble as she thought. They are willing to use violence to achieve their goals, and they are not afraid to betray those who stand in their way. The Marquesa is forced to choose between her love for the men and her loyalty to her country. She ultimately decides to betray the men, and she helps the government to defeat them. The novel ends with the Marquesa reflecting on the events of the past. She has lost her love, and she has seen the dark side of the Romantic movement. However, she has also gained a new understanding of herself and her country. She realizes that the only way to change society is through peaceful means, and she is determined to dedicate her life to making Spain a better place.Book Details
