'Gevoel en Verstand' Summary
Na de dood van hun vader worden Elinor, Marianne en hun jongere zus Margaret Dashwood gedwongen hun huis te verlaten en te verhuizen naar een bescheidener woning. Ze worden gedwongen hun leven opnieuw op te bouwen met weinig middelen, terwijl ze te maken krijgen met de sociale druk en de beperkingen die worden opgelegd aan vrouwen in die tijd. Elinor, de oudste zus, is een vrouw van verstand en zelfbeheersing, terwijl Marianne impulsief en emotioneel is. Hun verschillende persoonlijkheden leiden tot verschillende ervaringen met de liefde. Elinor ontmoet Edward Ferrars, een man die verliefd op haar is, maar die vanwege zijn verplichtingen en sociale druk geen huwelijk met haar kan overwegen. Marianne daarentegen stort zich vol passie in een relatie met de charmante maar onbetrouwbare John Willoughby, die haar vervolgens in de steek laat. Door de tegenslagen die ze meemaken, leren de zussen de waarde van zowel verstand als gevoel, terwijl ze de complexiteit van de liefde en de sociale conventies van hun tijd onder ogen zien.
