'Kleine Zielen' Summary
De roman opent met de terugkeer van Constance en haar man, baron Van der Welcke, naar Den Haag na veertien jaar ballingschap in het buitenland. Ze keren terug voor hun zoon, maar ook omdat Constance verlangt naar haar familie. Het verhaal onthult de geheimen en schandalen die in de familie van Lowe spelen, en de complexiteit van de relaties tussen de verschillende leden. Het focus ligt op de dynamiek tussen Constance en haar man, die door hun voorgeschiedenis getekend worden. Constance probeert zich te schikken in haar nieuwe leven, terwijl Van der Welcke haar koude afstandelijkheid beantwoordt.
