Skin Game
'Skin Game' Summary
'Skin Game' centers around Squire Hillcrist, a landed gentleman whose family has resided in the manor house for generations. His tranquil life is disrupted by the arrival of the newly wealthy Hornblower, an industrialist determined to build factories on the Hillcrist's land. The Hornblowers, representing the forces of modernization and progress, clash with the Hillcrists, symbolizing the fading traditions and values of the landed gentry. The play examines the impact of industrialization on rural communities and the ethical dilemmas faced by characters caught between old and new worlds. As the clash between the two families escalates, their personal relationships become intertwined with the larger social changes taking place. Galsworthy, through witty dialogue and insightful character portrayals, explores the changing social order and the consequences of modernization on traditional values and the lives of those caught in the crossfire.Book Details
